When
a dog or cat's instinct is licking hair or injuries, we just feel disgusted
when we saw them. But it turns out, instinct dog or cat hair or lick the wound,
especially when they are injured it is scientifically justified. Why?
Apparently after observed, the wound that they always lick, will dry within a
few days later. From these observations, the researchers from the Netherlands
identified a substance in saliva, in particular human saliva. This substance is
said to also accelerate wound healing.
The
research team found that histatin, a small protein in saliva previously only
believed to kill bacteria, is also responsible for wound healing. The study,
published in The Journal of the Federation of American Societies for
Experimental Biology (FASEB). Exactly what is contained in saliva? Most of
saliva is water, but also contains electrolytes, bacteria, viruses, fungi,
secretions from the nose and lungs, cells from the lining of the mouth and
about 500 proteins. Humans spend about 700 ml of saliva each day.
Some
people might consider sterile saliva or disinfectant, so believe that saliva
will heal wounds faster. In fact, the mouth is a hotbed of germs and bacteria.
There are over 600 types of bacteria in the mouth and saliva that can cause
infection
after
reading of several sources from the internet, the author find that human saliva
was not only able to accelerate wound healing only, but still so many functions
and benefits of saliva, which of course is useful for our health. The functions
or benefits that include water as a means to break down food in the mouth, so
it can be sensed by the tongue and is more easily digested by the stomach.
Saliva is able to clean food and dead cells from the lining of the mouth.
Another benefit is useful to bind saliva into a ball so that food can be
swallowed, clean food and bacteria from the teeth, preventing dry mouth lining,
destroying or preventing the growth of certain fungi, neutralize acids from
foods and beverages and help regenerate the damaged tooth enamel, because
calcium and phosphorus levels. SubhanAllah, there are not something in vain
about what does created by Allah.
