It was very
annoying if every night have to hunt mosquitoes. Especially when the dry season
come like now. In the dry season, mosquitoes will be more and more come to our
house. So, we will be extra to hunt mosquitos, so that, our families,
especially our children are not made in delicious meals for mosquitoes. I'd
rather hunt with the manual way, ie by chase and kill them with the palm of the
hand. It's a little tired, but this does not endanger our families. Why? If we
always use chemical medicine in repel mosquitoes, it will impact the health of
our families. Especially if you are like me who have small children. I'm sure
we do not want to poison our children with always inhaling insect repellent
every day.
But after I read
some articles about health, actually there are the way to repel mosquitoes
without using of chemicals such as mosquito coils that apply in our body. and
of course this does not have any side effects on the health of our families. And
it is great!!! because beside this way can repel mosquitoes, our homes are also
more beautiful. Why? Actually, this way is plant an Ornamental plants around
our homes. It is interest? There are at least four plants we can plant as a way
to repel mosquitoes.
1. Zodia
Papua's indigenous
plants including the family Rutaceae, which contains a substance that serves as
evodiamine danrutaecarpine mosquito blocker that can last for 6 hours. Papuan
people's ordinary rubbing leaves on the body before entering the woods to avoid
the insects. To avoid the invasion of mosquitoes into the house, put in an
access point entry zodia breeze into the room. It can also be placed near the
fan. A gust of wind will make zodia aroma spread throughout the room and repel
mosquitoes. But avoid putting zodia in a small room with limited air
circulation, because the aroma zodia can make dizzy.
2. Geranium (Pelargonium Hortorum)
Geranium or
pelargonium or Tapak Dara, containing geraniol and citronellol can repel
mosquitoes. Planting geraniums in a pot and put it in a place exposed to the
wind. When the leaves of Geranium rubbing, scent will smell and make the
mosquitoes away. A study showed that extracts of geranium radula able to resist
mosquito Aedes aegypti. Only by applying these plant extracts on the body, the
dengue-causing mosquitoes away. Remarkably, geranium extract did not cause skin
irritation.
3. Serai
Perhaps no one
knows if the plants are often used as seasoning, it is able to kill mosquitoes,
because it contains geraniol and citronellal.
4. Fragrant Root
Vetiver can remove
undesirable aroma and able to kill Aedes aegypti. Vetiver extracts proven to
control Aedes aegypti and Anopheles aconitus. To repel mosquitoes from homes,
planting plants in the yard and feel useless.
